Join Our Community

There are so many ways you can get involved with the BMV community. From coming out to our monthly Field Days, to joining the weekly Weedy Wednesday sessions or stepping up as one of our Team Leaders or Committee Members!

Come along to a Field Day

On the first Sunday of every month (apart from Fathers Day) from February to December, you’ll find us out somewhere around McLaren Vale working to make our patch of the world that little bit better. We work from 9am to 11am and then stop to enjoy a bite to eat and a drink of something delicious. It’s great fun and we invite everyone regardless of age, experience or ability to join us.

Check out our upcoming events, and register for your free ticket for the next Field Day at the link below and we’ll see you there!

Join us for Weedy Wednesdays

Each week you can join us for Weedy Wednesdays, a low-key afternoon session focusing solely on the removal of woody weeds. Weedy Wednesdays are like a mini-BMV Field Day, where we work for a couple of hours before stopping for a cold drink and a small snack. It’ll be on each week, every week, with the location moving around over time.

If you want to know where and when to find us each Wednesday, you can find out on our socials each week or sign up to receive a weekly text message using the link below (you can opt-out whenever you like).

Be a Team Leader

Have you been with us for a while now and are keen to step things up? Then why not become a team leader? Our team leaders work together with our Field Day team to make sure our monthly sessions are well organised, fun and run smoothly - we couldn’t do it without them! Rocking up to site at 8am ahead of the Field Day, our team leaders get stuck in with whatever needs doing from helping to distribute supplies and equipment, laying out plants, to leading a group of volunteers or even cooking the bbq. We have roles to suit different interests and abilities, and you don’t need to be there every month.

If you’re keen to join us as a Team Leader, send us an email at biodiversitymv@gmail.com and we’ll get you on the list!

Join our Field Day Crew or Governing Committee

Biodiversity McLaren Vale has two committees governing what we do and how we do it - the Central Organising Group or COG and the Field Operations Group or FOG.

The COG is a group of 8 volunteer members, elected each year at the Annual General Meeting. The COG is the principal decision-making body for BMV, responsible for guiding the direction of the organisation, our partnerships and activities in line with our guiding vision and mission. We put the call out for nominations for the COG ahead of the AGM each year, so make sure you’re on our mailing list to receive updates.

The FOG is responsible for the running of our monthly Field Days. This FOG is a critical part of our success, as they are in charge of ensuring our volunteer Field Days are well run, organised and effective. This group is focussed on the preparation for each Field Day as much as the day itself, working with our partners to make sure each site is ready to go for our volunteer work force.  We operate on the theory that many hands make light work, with our FOG members pitching in across a variety of roles to get the job done.  If you are interested in joining the FOG, send us an email at biodiversitymv@gmail.com or have a chat to one of us at the next Field Day.
